College: Late nights “Studying” (Cramming), No Sleep, Early classes, high tuition, caffeine addiction, and all for what….getting a higher education? Young americans pay as much or maybe more for their college education than most would pay for a house or even a car. Most americans are still, after years of being out of college, paying off student loans that may have built up over the years. You attend this higher education to further your learning and prepare for jobs that are in corporate America. However, is going to college really worth all the money that you put in?
Honestly, in my opinion it is not. I have been lucky that I’ve haven’t had to pay for college fully yet, with the scholarships that I’ve received and that my tuition isn’t that high(yet) because I’m still at my community college (for now). But now that I’m looking to transfer it really got me to thinking: do I really want to further my education? Do I really want to go for my Bachelor’s in a major that is probably going to be useless in the long run? Or should I just stop now and just see what I can do with my Associates? In my experience I really haven’t learned anything in college that I haven’t learned in High School, or can Google, or just know already. In most of my classes that I had taken I didn’t have to study, which honestly I don’t suggest, or even read the book or materials for the upcoming class, which I also don’t suggest. I barely paid attention 80% of the time. But I just came to class and I had no problem following along in class or following along with as well as take part in the discussions. And for test, most of my professors will give a study guide to what the test is going to be on or go over beforehand. So there you have something to look over. Now I was not and am not some super genius that get’s straight A’s just because I touched a book or something, I’m just the type of person where when I learned something once, say like mathematics (alg-trig), it sticks with me for a very long time. Some people are not like that and it’s okay, be who you are and not what others make you out to be.
Before, you take this as a DO NOT GO TO COLLEGE, YOU LEARN NOTHING type of thing I have one last thing to say; while in college you do learn more about yourself than you would ever know. Yes, you pay all that money just to go find yourself. I guess it’s the going-off-on-your-own-and-leaving-the comfort-of-your-home type thing. But it’s will be worth it in the long run. Because in college you will discover who you are as an individual. You WILL find yourself there is no doubt about that. So that is a plus in some books. Also, the experiences that go along with college; the meeting new people who you could potentially spend many, many years with and share thousands of memories with, and all the different places and things that you could explore like studying abroad, is another plus that could potentially go along with college.
Any who finishing up, as they say college isn’t for everyone. Some people are not ment to go to college and that is okay too. But be your own person and don’t let anyone choose the path to your destiny, be you own driver. However, let me suggest, before you type-cast yourself as a person who wasn’t ment to attend college, don’t. Go take a class or two at you local community college and then see if you fit in the who college flow. Hey you might find out you actually like it. Just remember College is an options and you can always opt out of going.
And if you are in Jr High or High School reading this and looking for reasons not to go to college, DO NOT BY ANY MEANS tell your parents that I have told you not to go to college Because I AM NOT! Answering the question that was stated earlier: education wise no it’s really not, however, experience wise, yes it is. But you be the judge on that. Try it for a year or two or five even and then ask yourself was/is college worth all the money and time that is put into attending? And don’t forget to tell me also what your thoughts on this matter are!
Ohh and P.s….Staying on your parents insurance is not and will not be a good, even though may be true, reason to be in college. Hehe =)
P.p.s thanks for baring with me I kinda wrote this at 4 in the moring…the whole had an idea and went with it kind of things…..not my best work I can admit but still good!
Peace, Love, & Skittles!♥
