Game of Thrones- TV Show Review

hbo-bringing-back-game-of-thrones-for-a-third-chapter“Fear cuts deeper than swords”

With the end of season three I thought that I do a quick review of the series. Now let me warn you that I have not finish reading the books quite yet so please do not get on me for that. This is just from the TV Show not about the book.

Now on with the review…

Game of Thrones is basically several different kings fighting for the right to the Iron Throne after the death of the king of the realms. While the civil war is going on, there is an exile princess (now queen) who’s across the sea who tries to find her way back to fight for her right to the Iron throne that was taken from her family and mystical creatures start to approach the kingdom causing threats to the north that are supernatural. Be warned: WINTER IS COMING!

ldldI just got into the show a couple of months ago from a recommendation from a friend. So I went on HBO and I watched it from the very first episode before I saw the latest one. And let me say I was hooked from the very first 30 minutes. It was quickly paced and by the end of the episode it always left you wanting more. I liked that. The only thing that I couldn’t get over is all the NAMES!!!!!! There were so many and I just could keep the straight. When I was trying to explain it to other friends who have not saw the show or read the book it was very difficult. So, I just ended up not talking about the show with them and just with the friends who were going through the things that I was going through. But, after watching the first seasons and half of the second I started to come up with cleaver nicknames for characters that were important to the plot (Father Stark, Mother Stark, King guy, Jon Snow, Baby Stark, Princess Stark, Badass-little girl Stark, Bran badass dragon girl…) As the seasons went on I finally got the names of all the characters and now can tell others about the show. Another thing that I didn’t like about this show is the fact that whenever I get attached to a character and really started to like them, they…(oh I guess I shouldn’t give away too much…)

got-game-of-thrones-33186384-500-562There is a bunch of gore and nudity but oddly enough I was okay with it. It wasn’t tasteless and it stuck to the plot so it wasn’t like the producers just randomly put it in to get more viewers. I would have to say that within the three seasons there are about two episodes that will make or break the whole show for you. One of them was just predictable, even to those who didn’t read the book beforehand. However, the other on just blindsided me. And let me just say WOW! I have never been in such shock and speechless after watching a show until now…it was just…well you have to watch the show to find out. All in all it was just a wonderful TV show and I will recommend it to EVERYONE that I know! I mean GO if you don’t already watch it you should you don’t know what you are missing out on. And I cannot wait until 2014 when season 4 comes out!

Breaking Dawn: Food for thought

** Spoiler alert **

Warning:
Within this post it gives away what happens within the whole book. If you have not
read the book yet and are unaware of what happened you many not want to read
this post.

I know that it’s too early to be thinking about, well in fact obsessing over, what the movie Breaking Dawn would be like. If you are a die-hard twilight fan like me I bet you are doing the same. BD is the final book of the twilight series and there are so many important details and events that take place. That if one thing is left out of the movie that would be a huge disgrace to the novel itself. Obviously that is a lot of pressure on the director. Within the book, Stephenie went into great details about Bella and Edward’s wedding. She made it feel like you were there standing in the Cullen’s house watching the wedding yourself and taking in all the scent that Bella is taking in. Then, Stephenie did the honeymoon scene it was beautiful and very “tasteful”. We all know that Bella and Edward were very intimate during their time on Isle Esme but Stephenie also didn’t go into all the smutty details that she could have gone into leaving a lot to my imagination. In a movie; however, you take away the element of imagining things for yourself. The director shows you what he feels that things should look like. I just hope that his vision is somewhat like my own.

In addition, within BD there were a lot of shocking surprises. For one, who ever knew that a vampire could procreate with a human! Being immortal means giving up all human rights of bearing children, right? Well Stephenie didn’t think so. BD went from being a story full of love and happiness to one that is full of sorrow and anguish. That twist is very rare because pregnancies are supposed to be joyful and happy. Bella loved the baby so much that she was going to carry out this pregnancy even though it was clearly killing her; with the only hope is to keep her heart beating long enough so that being turned into a vampire would save her. Edward was put in so much pain. He loved Bella so much that he would truly do and go through ANYTHING. Stephenie wrote the chapters following the honeymoon so sad and in so much detail. I really hope the director and actors both portray the sadness and agony to give justices of the book. I mean not to do it or make it less sad is really bad.

After the wedding and mostly throughout the book BD is supposed to be sad and depressing. I mean she’s carrying a baby that is breaking every bone in her body and trying to kill her. Even after the birth of their child then the Volturi is coming to MURDER the entire Cullen family. There is nothing happy and joyful about that. So this movie shouldn’t be all sunshine and butterflies all the time. Now they do have to cut down on some scene and make them less graphic to keep this movie PG-13. For instance, chapter 18, the birth, was by the most graphic thing that Stephenie ever written. With Bella’s bones creaking and the throwing up blood eww just thinking about it now makes me sick to my stomach. However Edward, who was hard-pressed about not changing Bella, now was trying to get as much of his venom in her heart as possible to save her. This book is filled with love, friendship, sorrow, happiness, and so much more. I just hope that this upcoming movie gives the justice that the book deserves.

Water for Elephants

Life is the most spectacular show on earth ♥

***UPDATE 4/26/2011****

Yesterday I finally went to go see Water for Elephants! Now it was hands down a spectacular movie and I did enjoy it very much. However, there were some parts that really irked me a little. Now I know when taking a book and turing it into a film there will be some changes. But never in my life did I expect to see that many changes. For those who haven’t read the book and only just seen the movie fair warning this might spoil the book for you. OK the 1st thing that they change was the begining. In the book Jacob was an olderly man in the nursing home looking back onto the years that he was working on the circus. And looking forward to going to the circus with his family later on. But in the movie its started out with him already being at the cirucs as an old man and him telling the circus owner/manager his story about how he got onto the Benzeni Bother’s Circus in 1931. Now, also in the book Jacob found out that his parents had gotten into an car accident before his final. And it was during his final that he found out in the movie. Then when he got onto the circus in the book Uncle Al was the owner and August was the Manger. In the movie August was the ringleader and the owner, they competely took out Uncle Al’s character. In the book Marlean’s character was pervlouly engaded to an banker and when she ran off with August her family than disowend her. In the movie she was a foster kid who figured joining the circus would be better than she could ever do. Also in the movie Jacob was the one who discoved that Rosie, the bull, didn’t understand english. She only reponded to polish. In the movie Jacob and Marleana willingly jumped off the trian after Jacob and August got into that big fight after august hit Marleana. And that’s when they slept together the first time. However, in the book, Marleane told august that she was leaving him after he hit her, and she walked to an hotle with jacob. And after that Uncle Al made Jacob try to get them back together to save the spec. In the movie they took out all of the flashback scenes that the books had. There are many many many more changes that were made to make this spectatualar book into a movie. But I’m not going to say another word. I want to hear from you. What did you think of the movie after you saw it. What was your Favoirte part? What didn’t you like about it? What you wished they would of kept the same? What should they of changed?

[[Goodreads.com]] Though he may not speak of them, the memories still dwell inside Jacob Jankowski’s ninety-something-year-old mind. Memories of himself as a young man, tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. Memories of a world filled with freaks and clowns, with wonder and pain and anger and passion; a world with its own narrow, irrational rules, its own way of life, and its own way of death. The world of the circus: to Jacob it was both salvation and a living hell.

Jacob was there because his luck had run out – orphaned and penniless, he had no direction until he landed on this locomotive ‘ship of fools’. It was the early part of the Great Depression, and everyone in this third-rate circus was lucky to have any job at all. Marlena, the star of the equestrian act, was there because she fell in love with the wrong man, a handsome circus boss with a wide mean streak. And Rosie the elephant was there because she was the great gray hope, the new act that was going to be the salvation of the circus; the only problem was, Rosie didn’t have an act – in fact, she couldn’t even follow instructions. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and ultimately, it was their only hope for survival.

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen is defintly a compelling and surpising book ever. You won’t want to put it down. now guess what its coming out in theaters on April 22nd, 2011. Starting Robert Pattinson(Star of twilight) and Reese Witherspoon(Star of Legally Blond) this film is surly the one to see. But I do say that prior to seeing this movie i highly recommand reading the book. It is really a Good Read!!!!
